PONTING TAKES UP FIGHT AGAINST CANCER
Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting yesterday won over some of Tasmania's sick children at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

In Hobart for the third Test match at Bellerive starting on Thursday, Ponting and his wife Rianna visited the paediatric oncology unit to meet those who would benefit from the Ponting Foundation's fight against childhood cancer.

Ponting signed cricket bats, posters and hats for the children who travel from all over the state to get treatment.

PONTING HITS DOUBLE TON
Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has finally been dismissed but not before becoming the first player to score a Test double century at Bellerive Oval.

Ponting scored 25 bounadries in his marathon innings before chasing a wide ball and offering a simple catch to Pakistani captain Mohammad Yousuf off the bowling of Mohammad Aamer when on 209, midway through the second session of the second day of the third and final Test.

PONTING VOTED PLAYER OF THE DECADE
Ricky Ponting has been voted Player of the Decade by an overwhelming majority by a jury comprising former and current players and cricket writers.

Ponting got 60 points (a first-place vote fetched three points, a second place two, and third place one), 23 more than second-placed Jacques Kallis. Adam Gilchrist was ranked third (29 points), while positions four to seven went to Muttiah Muralitharan, Glenn McGrath, Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne.

PONTING FORESHADOWS HIS SHIFT DOWN ORDER
Ricky Ponting will consider moving down the batting order if he believes there is a better candidate available for the pivotal number three position.

While Ponting does not expect his place in the batting line-up to change in the foreseeable future, and certainly not during the third Test against Pakistan in Hobart, beginning tomorrow, it is significant he is willing to broach the issue.
