RICKY PONTING ON BRINK OF HISTORY
Ricky Ponting's bold declaration in the first Test against Pakistan has given him the chance of becoming the most successful captain in history.

Should Australia win this match, which will take an awful lot of hard work on this lifeless strip, it will give Ponting more victories than any other skipper in 132 years of Test cricket. This is remarkable given that he is the first Australian captain in more than 100 years and just the second in history to lead two losing tours of England, prompting calls for his head.

''I want to see how they are going with it all. It's one thing for the players to accept these sort of changes and technologies, but it's another thing for the umpires as well.''

AUSTRALIA'S FIGHTING SPIRIT THRILLS PONTING
Skipper Ricky Ponting believes Australia's great escape in yesterday's one-day match against India in Mohali could mark the turning point of the series.

Ponting was elated that his inexperienced, injury-hit side could defend 250 on a Mohali strip made for massive totals and level the series 2-2 ahead of Thursday's fifth match in Hyderabad.

Ponting is also impressed with the on-going development of man of the match Shane Watson, paceman Peter Siddle and off-spinner Nathan Hauritz.

"It just goes to show the fighting qualities of this side. Whenever everyone thinks we're down we can manage to pull out a result like that, which is very satisfying for me as the leader of the team," Ponting said.
