Only Flintoff good enough, says Ponting

Australian captain Ricky Ponting says Andrew Flintoff is the only England player good enough to play on the Australia side.

The ever-vocal Aussie skipper said he respected Flintoff and added Australia lacked an all-rounder of his calibre.

"The one thing we haven't got is a world-class all-rounder - a Flintoff sort of player.

"Most sides around the world would be looking for someone who can perform as well as Flintoff has with bat and ball," Ponting told BBC Five Live.

"We haven't had one of those for a long time and we see Adam Gilchrist as being the all-rounder in our side at the moment."

Although Ponting and Flintoff are yet to meet each other on the field the Aussie skipper feels the young Brit is a force to be reckoned with.

Flintoff has only faced the Australians three times in one-day internationals. On those occasions he scored 77 runs and took two wickets.

Ponting also conceded that England had made a massive improvement in the last year, having won 14 of their last 18 Tests.

He said: "We've all been very impressed with what they've achieved.

"They've certainly come a long way to be the number two ranked Test team in the world."
