Ricky Ponting believes Australia can maintain their position as the best test side in the world as long as the new players can settle in.
The Aussies finished top of the ICC test rankings for a fourth consecutive time, finishing a whopping 30 points ahead of nearest rivals India.
Ponting says India and South Africa would pose the biggest threat to their position at the head of Test cricket's standings, but he still believes they will remain out in front.
The Aussie skipper collected the ICC Mace in Mumbai and said that the newer additions to the squad can help keep the Baggy Greens at the top of the tree.
"If they can do that and the older guys like me, Matty Hayden and the other guys keep pulling our weight we can hopefully remain No. 1," Ponting told Reuters.
