PONTING REACTS ANGRILY TO REPORTS HE WAS RELUCTANT TO PLAY
Former Australia Test captain Ricky Ponting has responded angrily to suggestions that he was reluctant to play for Tasmania in this week's Sheffield Shield clash against Western Australia.

Ponting, who will fly out for South Africa with the Australian team on Friday, took offence to reports that he wanted to pull out of the Shield match after hearing that national team-mate Mike Hussey was to be rested.

"You've just made up a load of rubbish again today in the paper," Ponting fired at the offending journalist during a press conference at the WACA on Monday.

"You know it's not true and you've chosen to write the story that you wrote today, which is completely unfactual (sic).

PONTINGS WELCOME NEW DAUGHTER MATISSE ELLIE
Source: The Daily Telegraph - September 8, 2011

Ricky Ponting and wife Rianna Ponting have welcomed another daughter to their family today.

The former Australian cricket captain flew home from the tour of Sri Lanka to be present for the birth of their second child, named Matisse Ellie.

The Pontings also have a three-year-old daughter, Emmy.

It is expected that Ponting will return to Sri Lanka for the third and final Test, which begins on September 16 in Colombo.

The second Test starts today, with debutant Shaun Marsh replacing Ponting at first drop.

Ponting was replaced as Test skipper by Michael Clarke following the Ashes disaster last summer.

PONTING READY TO LEAVE FOR BIRTH OF SECOND CHILD
The doting father that he is, Ponting said he will abandon the tour of Sri Lanka at a moment's notice if the birth of his second child comes sooner than expected.

Ponting's wife Rianna is due to give birth just a week after the last Test late next month but, with his three-year-old daughter Emmy born more than a month early, he expects to dash off at any time during the ODI series or three Tests that follow.

"Emmy was five weeks early so the likelihood of second one being early is pretty high. We've got all sorts of plans in place if it happens to come early, but it's pretty hard to make any concrete plans because we're not exactly sure when it's going to happen," Ponting said.

RICKY PONTING AND HIS PROUDEST CENTURY
Until Colin Cowdrey reached the mark in 1968, no cricketer had played 100 Test matches. It is both a measure of Australia's success and the vast expansion of the game's scheduling ever since that Ricky Ponting now stands above all others, the first man to have played in 100 Test victories.

Of all Ponting's achievements, this will sit near the top as a source of satisfaction whenever he ends his career. Personal statistics and their associated glory have never held his attention, but for 16 years, Test match wins have been his fundamental goal. For him to know he has participated in 100 of them will cause the familiar grin to emerge on Ponting's face, the grin that has remained boyish through all the series, tours and fluctuations of his time on the big stage.

PONTING HEADS HOME FOR BIRTH OF SECOND CHILD
Ricky Ponting will celebrate becoming the first player with 100 Test victories and Michael Clarke's first as captain by flying home for the birth of his second child.

Speaking shortly after Australia beat Sri Lanka by 125 runs to win the first Test, Ponting said scans showed that the baby was due in the next few days.

"Things are happening pretty quickly and have been happening pretty quickly all this week," Ponting said.

"I have been pretty keen to get this Test over quickly and catch a flight."

However Ponting claimed he would not have left before the end of the Test if his wife Rianna had given birth during the match.

"We had plans in place for that," he said.
